In 2002, I was worried. The world seemed in an awful mess and I didn’t know what to do about it. So I set myself the task of writing a poem a day, figuring that would keep me busy and you never know what good comes of doing your own work diligently. Three hundred and sixty-five poems later, I took a breath and culled poems. I found 76 that weren’t too shabby and polished them. I formed a book, Hand Work, published by Mid-List Press this fall of 2009.

Here’s the first poem in the book:

Purchase

QUANTUM

The theory is that energy is radiated discontinuously.
Who hasn't felt that rising from bed,

feet shuffling into slippers, brain needing coffee,
shoulders slumping over the paper,

waiting for the sun to clear the tree ridge
and flood the room.  We sleep, then we wake.

We tumble through the world, holding
onto ourselves as if some day

we will go missing.  In rare instances,
perceived in the right light,

we shine.
